Steven Carlyle Spears, Sr.

Steven Carlyle Spears, Sr., age 66, passed away at his home in Montevallo, AL on Sunday, February 12, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi to James Kenneth Spears and Plumer Lee DeWeese Spears. He attended Montevallo High School where he proudly played football and baseball. In1967, he celebrated a Bulldog’s baseball championship. He married his high school sweetheart, Donnie Sue Reynolds in 1968 and raised 3 sons alongside her. His unforgettable laughter lifted the spirits of those around him, and Steve’s easygoing nature and humor are among the characteristics that made his time on this earth memorable and enjoyable. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing, watching and talking sports, typically cheering for the underdog. When he was not engaged in activity, he was in the stands watching his children and grandchildren on the ball field or controlling the remote keeping the screen occupied with games and competitions of all kinds. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Steven C. Spears, Jr., and his brother, Mitchell A. Spears. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Donnie Sue; sons, Christopher D. (Michelle) and J. “Daryl” (Sherri) Spears; grandchildren, Austin, Conner, Chloe, Steven, Annika, Vivi, and Emery Spears; brothers, Eddie W. (Maureen) Spears and James D. (Debbie) Spears; his sister-in-law, Pleasia (Mitchell A.) Spears; and his nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, special cousins from Mississippi, and many other loving relatives. His Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Enon Baptist Church (Montevallo). Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with his service to be held at 2:00 PM. A committal service will follow at Randall-Reynolds Cemetery (Montevallo).
