Brandon “Jace” McGuire
Brandon “Jace” McGuire, 20, passed away on August 9, 2026, at UAB Hospital, surrounded by friends and family who loved him fiercely. Jace was a graduate of Helena High School, Class of 2025, where he was a proud member of the Helena High School Wrestling Team. Following graduation, he worked at Donaldson Correctional Facility while pursuing his dream of becoming a police officer. He had recently been accepted into the Birmingham Police Department and was scheduled to begin the police academy later this month. Although Jace was not here to hear the news himself, his family takes comfort in knowing that the goal he set for himself had finally become a reality, and they know he would be so proud to hear the news.
Jace was funny, kind, selfless, respectful and always willing to help others. He had a genuine desire to make a difference and to be there for people when they needed him. He was a true light to those around him. In the days since his passing, the countless stories of is kindness, character and the lives he touched have made one thing abundantly clear: Jace was deeply loved and admired. He had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he met and his absence will be felt by so many.
Jace is survived by his mother, Teresa Etheridge; his sister, Taylor Allen; his grandmother, Connie Etheridge; his 2 very special nieces, Aayla Rose and McKenna Jace. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends who will miss him terribly. On his fathers side, Jace is survived by his father, Darrell McGuire; his brother and sisters; aunts, uncles and extended family.
Jace was proceeded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Tommy and Betty Halbrook.
A year before passing, Jace shared words that now carry an even deeper meaning:
“Sometimes the will of God breaks your heart – but it’s still holy. He often makes us uncomfortable to shift us into a deeper obedience. And while it hurts, I trust him.”
Those words were Jace’s, and they are a fitting reminder of the faith and trust he carried with him. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave, the people he helped, and the lives he touched will remain long after his passing. Jace’s light will continue to shine through everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Services for Brandon will be held at Charter Funeral Home on Sunday, August 16, 2026, with a gathering starting at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 p.m.
I can’t express how deeply this saddens me especially for his mother and the rest of his family. He was such a sweet, kind and respectful young man. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Jace was one of my closest friends since 6th grade, even when we weren’t in consistent communication we both knew we’d always be there for eachother no matter what. i’m so thankful i got to make so many new memories with him within the last year and got 8 years of precious precious memories. i will never let go of those and never forget the incredible person jace always was, i admired him so much and he was well beyond his years. his entire family will be in my thoughts for the rest of my life as i can’t imagine how painful this loss is on them. he left an incredible impact on everyone his time was far too short but he left amazing love and impacts on everyone’s life. i’ll continue praying for his family and being there for anyone i can be just like jace would.
I am very proud to have known Jace. He was an outstanding young man. My last contact with him was when he sent me a text wishing me a Happy Father’s Day. This was something he didn’t have to do, but it speaks volumes of his character. I thanked him, and responded with a heart emoji – because then, as now,… he is loved.
To the Family( Especially the McGuire Family), I would like to express my deepest condolences. My prayers are with both of Jace’s parents in the days ahead.
I had the privilege of meeting both Jace, and his mom, while working together at Publix in Alabaster. It was evident from the beginning Teresa raised a respectful, hardworking young man. His colleagues thought highly of him, as well as the customers. Whatever needed to be done, he was willing to do and always had the best attitude. Reading of his passing has truly broken my heart. Teresa, if you happen to see this please know that I’m praying and thinking of you all. May the memories of your precious son bring you comfort in all of the days ahead.
