Sheila Boyd
Sheila Boyd age 76 of Montevallo, AL. passed away on Thursday November 28, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Sheila Gail Reed on July 16, 1948, to her parents Carl and Mary Reed of Fairfield, AL. In January 1970, she married the love of her life, Chuck Boyd, and they had 4 beautiful children: Keith, Amy, Kimberly & Stormy.
From an early age. Sheila was very outgoing and loved by all whom had the pleasure of knowing her. In high school she played clarinet for the Fairfield High Marching Band. After graduating, she received her degree in Early Childhood Education and became a teacher. She taught 4-year Kindergarten and subbed K-8th grades at Oak Hill Private School for many years. She also ran the after-school care program. Sheila loved teaching. She always made sure that learning was fun for her students. From decorating every inch of her classroom to even decorating her house for the holidays and bringing the students over for a field trip pertaining to that holiday. She was probably most famous and even made her way into the Birmingham News for her “Bunny Tree”. Every year Sheila decorated her huge magnolia tree in her front yard with hanging eggs and blow-up Easter Bunnies and her students would come to her house for a field trip to hear the story of Peter Rabbit. Sheila’s outgoing personality did not stop at teaching. Chuck and their son Keith were very involved in Scouts and Sheila was not going to let them have all the glory there. She served as Den Mother for many years for the Scout’s Den of Central Park. She even earned her Polar Bear Patch right along with Keith & Chuck at Tannehill State Park.
Chuck & Sheila shared their love of camping, fishing and flying. They were both members of The Civil Air Patrol, where Sheila served as Treasurer with the Birmingham Branch.
Sheila enjoyed many things but most of all was spending time with her Grandbabies, listening to Elvis, gospel music, camping, watching Fox News and most of all cheering on the Atlanta Braves.
Sheila is described as many things: Wife, Mother, Gramma, Sister, Aunt but most of all she was best described as “The Strongest Woman I know”. She overcame many struggles on earth. From falling 5 floors in an elevator, leaving her handicap, to beating breast cancer, double mastectomy, multiple back surgeries, joint replacements and bone fusions to name a few, of which she conquered all. She also suffered many tragedies from the loss of her parents, her brother, her daughter, her granddaughter and her Husband. I wouldn’t say that she overcame those tragedies, but she was the backbone that carried her family through. Sheila had a heart of gold. Would help anyone in need whether she knew them or not. Her motto was: “We are all brothers and sisters of Christ”.
Sheila is proceeded in death by her Parents, Carl and Mary Reed, Brother, Don Reed, Daughter Kimberly Campbell, Granddaughter Shelby Boyd and the love of her life, her husband Chuck Boyd. She is survived by her Son, Keith (Kim) Boyd, Daughter Amy (Cary) Yeoman, Daughter Stormy (Adam) Boyd. Grandchildren: Sheldon Boyd, Hunter Wood, Garrett Wood, Erin (Dawson) Littleton, Jared (Erin) Yeoman, Kevin Yeoman, Braden Newman, Adalynn Newman and McKenzie Boyd. Great Grandchildren: Maggie Boyd and Paisley Boyd.
Sheila did not want a traditional funeral service. She was very strong in her faith and knew where she was going when she left her earthly body. She said that she didn’t need to be preached into Heaven that she would already be there. A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 7th, 2024 from 1pm-4pm at Oak Mountain Independent Church in Alabaster, AL.
Amy your tribute to you mom is beautiful, although I did not have the blessings of knowing her but through your words I gained a vision of a very strong, active and lovely lady.
I know everyone will miss her but rest peacefully knowing she is celebrating with Jesus.
