Ronald D. Cottingham “Poppy”

Ronald David Cottingham, “Poppy”, age 77, of Hueytown, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. David is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Janie Cottingham and his son, Sam Cottingham. He is survived by his son, Matt Cottingham (Stephanie); daughter, Lori Polk (Brad); daughter-in-law, Amanda Cottingham; 11 grandchildren, Caitlyn, Morgan, Leah, Andrew, Emmy, Bennett, Giovonni, Sophie, Hadley, Sadie, and Janie Kate. And one sweet great granddaughter, Elli.

If you ever met David, it is likely he told you a story and made you laugh. The world was a lighter place because of him. His gentle smile, easygoing, laid back nature would put anyone at ease. He was the most patient person the world has ever seen. He loved his children and grandchildren and they knew it – he was a wonderful father and Poppy. He will be greatly missed by so many. 

Services will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, in the Charter Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. David will be laid to rest with honors in the Alabama National Cemetery at 2pm.
