Marta Will Johnston St. John

Marta Will Johnston St John, a resident of Cordova TN, died Monday, June 24, 2024. She was 79 years old.
Marta was born November 25, 1944, in Alexander City AL. She graduated from Troy University with a degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career spanned from 1968 – 2003. She continued to provide volunteer in home tutoring following retirement. A certified Master Gardener, she volunteered her horticultural expertise and services. She was active in the children and young adult programs at her church. An avid genealogist, she volunteered and assisted researchers at the local family history center and she taught classes on family history.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Lt. Col. (USAF) Dalles St John; parents Willie Clyde and Nadine Floyd Johnston; brother Clyde Floyd Johnston; and nephew Will Hampton Johnston. She is survived by her sons Christopher Lee St John and Patrick Brian (Sandrine) St John; sister NaDel Johnston (Howard) Griffith, sister-in-law Beverly Johnston (Sam) Folmar; nieces Gretchyn Griffith (Jerry) Judeh and Susan Johnston (Eric) Jernigan; nephew Ward Adam Griffith; and beloved friend Patty Laudenslager.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in the Charter Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and a Funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.

Marta was a treasured friend to me when she lived in Eclectic. I have wonderful memories of our time together.

Marta was a beautiful lady and a dear friend for more than 20 years. She freely shared her love of teaching especially with the youth of her church. I will forever cherish our friendship and every precious memory of her. Prayers are with her loving family.
