Katharina Susanna (Susi) Beiersdoerfer

Katharina Susanna (Susi) Beiersdoerfer (Oma) of Calera, Alabama finished her race on the morning of May 8. She was a loving example of the service of Christ throughout her life beginning as early as the age of 5 as she started crocheting socks for her family and the soldiers. She always gravitated to the children – all children.

She was born in Viernheim, Germany on October 6, 1926 to Josef and Maria Froschauer. From the age of 5 her grandmother taught her to knit and crochet and for the next 86 years she knitted and crocheted for her family and friends. At age 27, she immigrated to Canada with her husband and son. They moved to Pittsburg, PA in 1958 and finally settled in Birmingham, AL in 1962 becoming US citizens shortly thereafter. She spent the last 25 years of her career managing the Pioneer Restaurant in Roebuck. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montevallo.

She is preceded in death by her husband Helmut Beiersdoerfer, and all her four siblings: George, Otto, Leni, and Baerbel. She is survived by her son Werner Beiersdoerfer (Elaine); her grandchildren Brittney Hogue (Scott); Heidi Stubbs (Stan); Brock Beiersdoerfer (Kimberly) and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation and service will be held Monday May 20 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montevallo, AL. Visitation will be from 10am- 11am and service from 11am- 12pm.
