Jerry J. Hackler
Jerry J. Hackler, age 84, of Alabaster, AL, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017. He was born in Jackson, MS to the late Newton Jasper “Buck” and Helen Glover Hackler. He graduated from Central High School, he then proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Security Forces. In 1952 he married Martha Jean Griffin. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, he started his career with South Central Bell. He went on to further his education graduating from Mississippi Junior College in 1966. Martha Jean passed away in 1983. Four years later in 1987 he married Patricia Hackler. He retired from BellSouth in 1991. Jerry was a life long believer in Jesus Christ. He was an active Member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS where they led the Youth Group until he and his family moved to Alabaster, AL. They became active members of Faith Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and with the Men’s Study Group until his passing. He was also predeceased by his brother, Dr. Michael Hackler. His survivors include his wife of 30 years, Patricia Hackler; children, Cynthia Dean Hackler Began (Keith Edward) and Jeri Elizabeth Carter (Kenneth Rayburn); step-daughter, Beth Ann Gill (Kenneth); sisters, Jean Constantine (Jesse) and Suzanne Mayers (Dean); brother, Edward Lamar Hackler (Marian); grandchildren, Adrian Finley (Jonathan), Katelyn Carter, Lauren Nicole Carter, Brandon Weinstein, Timothy Edwards (Kelli), Mitchell Carter, Kendall Carter, Jessica Rinehart (Eric), Andrew Weinstein and Benjamin Edwards (Whitney); great Grandchildren, Jackson Edwards, Ava Claire Finley, Collins Parker Rinehart and Emma Finley and a host of other family members and friends. A visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday. October 26, 2017 at Charter Funeral Home, Calera, AL. A Funeral Service will be 11 am, Friday, October 27, 2017 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4601 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 35242. A Committal Service with Honors will be at the Alabama National Cemetery. Charter Funeral Home is directing the services.
