David Wayne Galey

David Wayne Galey, age 66, passed away on Sunday, December 28th. He was dearly loved by his family and will be deeply missed.
David was born on July 31, 1959, in Decatur, Illinois, to Delores and Walter Galey. He was the youngest of three children, preceded by his siblings, Larry and Debbie.
He graduated from Catalina High School in Tucson, Arizona, with the Class of 1977. During his high school years, David played football, ran track, and proudly joined the 1,000-pound weightlifting club—an early reflection of the strength, determination, and discipline that remained with him throughout his life.
In 1981, David married his high school sweetheart, Susan Cassie Galey, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned more than four decades. Together they raised three sons, Chris, Adam, and Ryan, who were the pride of his life. His family continued to grow with the addition of his daughters-in-law, Jenny, Staci, and Annie, and his cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Elijah, Madison, Greyson, and Wendy.
A devoted family man and skilled craftsman, David was known for his strong work ethic, generosity, and willingness to help others. He worked throughout the greater Birmingham area, completing home repairs and lending his talents wherever they were needed. He also faithfully served many churches over the years, always giving his time and skills without hesitation.
David had a deep love for the outdoors and remained remarkably active throughout his life. He was often seen hiking miles at Oak Mountain State Park, riding his bike 50 miles one way just for fun, or picking up trash along the roads near his home. His mornings frequently began early at the 24e Gym, where he was a familiar face at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays before heading to work. At 64 years old, David completed the Mercedes Marathon and finished under time, a testament to his perseverance and strength.
He was well known for finding any excuse to make his homemade ice cream and brownies, a tradition enjoyed by family and friends alike. Above all, David will be remembered for his genuine heart, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Christian Life Church, with a gathering of family and friends held one hour prior to his service.
