Charlotte Cory Davis
Davis, Charlotte Cory age 82, went to the arms of Jesus on Oct 1, 2019. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Lloyd Davis; her parents Robertson Cory and Jimmie Baker Cory; and brothers, Morris Cory, Don Cory, Tom Cory & son in law, Hardy Walker. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Davis Purdy (Gary) of Birmingham, & Amy Davis Pitts (Bill) of Odenville; Her grandchildren, Haylee Marie Walker, Tuscaloosa; Wesley Joseph Walker, Birmingham; Carlie Jean Walker, Odenville; Davis Gardener Purdy (Kaitlyn), Durham, NC; ClaraLane Elizabeth Purdy, Birmingham; Great Granddaughter, Zoey Leigh Walker, Odenville; sister, Nellie Cory Salter, Rainbow City, Al; brother, David Cory (Kate), Oregon and numerous Cousins, Nieces, Nephews & their children and grandchildren. Charlotte was a native of Birmingham, attending Curry Elementary and Woodlawn High, ’55. In her early years, Charlotte was known for her guitar playing and singing country music (the twangy kind). She performed on many occasions around the Birmingham area and was fondly known for her ability to Yodel! She had a green thumb and had become a Master Gardener. Other favorite activities were her Delta Dawn Red Hat Society Club, Monthly lunches with fellow Woodlawn Alumni, her neighborhood Garden Club and attending weekly Hymn singings at the Alabaster Senior Center. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was fondly known as “Kiki”. She was a longtime member of Evangel Presbyterian Church in Alabaster and involved in discipleship, Women’s Bible Study, Small group studies and the Senor activities. She dearly loved the pastors and people of Evangel. Our family would like to thank the staff and members of Evangel for serving her, loving her so well and for modeling how to care for a widow. Charlotte was known for her kind spirit and genteel manner. Many have described her as a true “Southern Lady”. An internment service for family will be held at Veterans national Cemetery, Tues. Oct. 8 at 12:30 pm. The family will be welcoming friends at 2 pm at Evangel Presbyterian Church, at 423 Thompson Rd Alabaster 35007, 205-664-0889. A memorial service will follow at 3pm.
