Virginia Josephine (Larizzo) Emerine

Virginia Josephine (Larizzo) Emerine, aged 91, (7-20-1929- 7-31-2020) died at home with her family in attendance.

The former Virginia Josephine Larizzo married Lauren Paul Emerine October 14, 1954 and was married 65 years. The couple had five children. Mrs. Emerine is survived by her husband Lauren P. Emerine, 4 children, Tina M. Wilhems (Paul), Christopher G. Emerine, Erica M. McKinney (Frank – deceased) and Jaime P. Emerine (Monica). She is pre-deceased by her son Lauren P. Emerine II, her mother, Josephine Larizzo, her father Frank Larizzo and her brother Phillip Larizzo.

She is also survived by 5 grandsons, Paul J. Wilhems, Andrew L. Wilhems (Jenna), Chandler L. Emerine (Lauren), Pierce R. Emerine and Carson W. McKinney and 4 great grandchildren, Annika R. Wilhems, Maggie Josephine Wilhems, Dalton F. Wilhems and Bodhi C. Wilhems.

Mrs. Emerine was most proud of her time as a nurse in the United States Navy Nurse Corp. Her rank at discharge was Lieutenant JG. She graduated from The Brigham and Women’s Hospital School of Nursing and went on to serve in the Navy until her discharge. Mrs. Emerine went on to attain her Undergraduate College degree from the University of Montevallo in Social Work. She also obtained her Master’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Mrs. Emerine kept her nursing license active well into her late 80’s and was always a nurse in each and every situation presented to her throughout her life.

Mrs. Emerine remained Roman Catholic throughout her lifetime and cherished her catholic upbringing. Mrs. Emerine enjoyed reading a variety of books and clinical documents until shortly before her demise and loved to travel all her life.

Services will be held in the Charter Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. for visitation with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. The family will have a private burial at the Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests you remember her with your donation- should you prefer- to the Salvation Army.

    I am so sorry for your lost of you caring wife Virginia. I am Irene Paradis-Larizzo niece I did meet your wife when I was a child. David moved back to Groton, CT in 2014 he keeps in touch with Sandra Larizzo-Smith. I will inform them of their Aunts passing. Sandra always spoke highly of Virginia. Love and Peace

      Please accept my condolences for the loss of Mrs. Virginia. Although I didn’t know her, but I think that she lived a full, active and interesting life.
