Larry Dale Bice

Larry Dale Bice, age 70, of Brierfield, AL, passed away from his temporal home to enter his eternal home on Friday, August 22, 2025, with his family by his side. Raised with values that run deep, Larry brought those principles into every aspect of his life. He was long time a member of Aldrich Assembly of God. He worked with the determination and toughness of a coal miner — because he was one. That life shaped him: strong hands, a strong back, and an even stronger spirit. He knew what it meant to put in long hours, face the darkness, and come out with dignity and pride. It wasn’t just a job; it was a way of life that demanded courage, resilience, and relentless effort — qualities Larry had in abundance.

Larry Bice was the embodiment of hard work and grit — a man forged by faith, family, and an unshakable work ethic. Larry’s life tells the story of someone who never backed down from a challenge, never gave up when things got hard, and never quit until the job was done.

Larry was strong, not just in will, but in character. Beyond his physical strength was a deeper strength — rooted in Christ. Larry was a man of faith who didn’t just talk about the Word, he lived it. He led by example, with humility and integrity. He gave from the heart, never for recognition, and always with sincerity. Whether helping a neighbor, guiding his children, or standing by his wife, Larry’s actions reflected a servant’s heart.

Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grand / great grandfather and loyal brother. He did not just speak of his beliefs; he lived them, allowing the Word of God to guide him each and every day.

As a husband Larry led with love and respect, always putting his family first. As a father and grandfather, he was a protector, provider and a role model, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. He cherished every moment with his wife, children, and grandchildren. As a brother, he stood as a steadfast presence — always reliable and supportive. He always seemed to show up, right on time with a willing and helping hand.

He led by example — steady, consistent, and humble — embodying the quiet power of a man who knew who he was in Christ. Those who knew Larry Bice could see in him the true meaning of servant leadership, a life marked by integrity, compassion. His faith was genuine, grounded in humility and expressed through quiet strength and unwavering commitment.

Dependable, generous, and grounded, Larry Bice left a legacy of hard work, unwavering faith, and love that never wavered. To know him was to know a man who gave his all — to his family, his work, and his God — and never once asked for anything in return.

Two things that he always instilled in his children’s hearts & minds were “Blessed are the Peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9) & “In order to have friends, you must first show yourself friendly!” (Proverbs 18:24) …and because of him, we carry those values forward, living not just in his memory, but in his example.

He is preceded in death by loving wife, Mary Lee Bice; parents, Ray Bice and Sara Nell Bice Hayes; sister Sandra Bice Thrash; and brother, Randy Bice. Larry is survived by his daughter, Treasure Marie Bice; sons, Jeffrey Dale Bice (Tiffany) and Shannon Lee Bice (Brandy); brothers, Donald Bice (Janice), Terry Bice (Tammy), and Mark Bice (Shirley); grandchildren, Tyler Butler (Chelsie), Trent Butler (Rebeca), Cole Bice (Emily), Trey Butler, Hunter Bice and Joshua Bice; great grandchildren Elodie Rae, Xyair, Issac and Cooper; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Bice will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 2 p.m. at his church, Aldrich Assembly of God, with Rev.’s Jerry Phillips and David Roper. His visitation will be held one hour prior to his service. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Ashby Cemetery in Brierfield. Charter Funeral Home in Calera will be handling his arrangements.

So sorry to hear about Brother Larry ! We have known Larry and Mary since 1974.My Husband David Carter worked with Larry at Calera Holly forge machine shop. Also, Kenneth worked there his brother-in-law. I was introduced to Mary and loved her immediately. They were great people. Later David worked in the coal mines like Larry. They both left for the coal mines to make more money for their family. He was truly a very godly man. He will be missed by many. He is home with Mary now. I know you take comfort in that. We so wanted to attend the funeral but I have tests that have been scheduled for a long time and cannot postpone them at the hospital. Our prayers will be with you all tomorrow as you lay brother Larry to rest.

What can I say about my Uncle Larry that hasn’t been covered in the eulogy or description on Charters website or that I can write in the limited amount of space given…. you know most everybody calls me long winded ( I just say I’m very detailed) lol .
My Uncle Larry was always there for his family – although he might have been in pain or worse off than you – he always asked us about how we were . He and aunt Mary would check on me and always asked about my husband, my boys and the last time Uncle Larry and I talked – he asked about my precious Grand-daughter Saylor .
He came to eat at my house on the Saturday after July 4th and saw Saylor for the first time – he thought she was something – she recited her ABC’s for him and even called him “Pawpaw” one time when she was standing to the side of him in the kitchen ( I’m pretty sure she thought he was my daddy – Donald- her Great Grandpa & Uncle Larry’s brother) . That made him smile . He told about 2 weeks before he passed away that the next time he saw Saylor he wanted to hold her – I told him I thought we could make that happen – we might have to bribe her with some food – cause she’s like those Bice’s – she loves to eat ! Lol
I have so many great memories of my Uncle Larry and Aunt Mary . He was always concerned about your relationship with the Lord and wanted his family and friends to know the Lord . He told us about how his mama and daddy taught him and his brothers and sister about Jesus ( and how his mama – our grandmother lived it – not just taught it). He always told us how his parents instilled in him and his siblings the importance of knowing the Lord and of being there for each other no matter what . I can truly say my Uncles have always been closer than brothers- pretty much best friends- always there for each other ! That is what always impressed me about them – how they were always there for each other … They’ve tried to instill that into their kids and grands as well. Uncle Larry strived to be a peacemaker just like the scripture he often quoted. He has left a great legacy for his family and friends to follow. I could go on and on about him but…
Uncle Larry I love you and will miss you so much – BUT I will see you again – give Aunt Mary a hug for me !
    Your oldest niece ,
    Angie

My Daddy was the strongest man I have ever known. He truly taught us how to love the Lord and to love Family & Friends. I will forever miss him but I will always hold him in my heart. I told him at the time of his death that I will see him again and I will forever strive to make Heaven my home. I will see you again Daddy. I will forever Love You.
