Joseph Edward Dyess
Joseph Edward Dyess, 85, formerly of Opp, Alabama passed away peacefully in his home in Alabaster, Alabama on July 24th. He was born in Elba, Alabama to James Theodore and Annie Merle Dyess June 18th, 1934. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Sue Nolen Dyess, His children James Arthur Dyess, Rebecca Ann Dyess, and Thomas Edward (Brandy) Dyess, and his grandchildren
Zachary Thomas Woodard and Kayley Michele Dyess. Joe graduated from high school in Opp, moving on to Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He took a break during his studies to serve his country in the United States Army. After graduating in 1959, Joe married his best girl and worked in the textile industry for several years before returning to his hometown. For many years, he worked the third shift as the Training Director at the local cotton mill and managed the family farm during the day. Family was everything to Joe. He loved his children and grandchildren without measure, delighting in every moment of their lives. He also touched many lives in the community, where he was known as “Joe Ed”. He was a very intelligent man, inventing machines to accomplish tasks around the farm. He could build or repair anything mechanical and was skilled with growing many different crops as well as running a successful dairy farm for many years. A gathering of family and friends will be held at The Country Cathedral, 31022 East US Hwy 84 in Opp, Alabama, on August 3rd from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A family graveside service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119 in Montevallo, Alabama, on August 5th at 11:00 AM.
RIP Joe Ed. Praying for Sue, Art, Rebecca, Thomas as well as his brothers, Charles and Robert, that God will wrap His arms around all of you and comfort you through this most difficult time.
