Mary Ellen Walters Walker

Mary Ellen Walters Walker, 97, Alabaster (formerly Louisville KY), passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.  She was born in Whitley County Kentucky on August 18, 1927, to the late Luke Walters and Otie Bays Walters.  She is predeceased by sisters Opal Walters, Marie Sharp (Ellis) and Fannie Mae Kelly (Leon), brothers Roy Walters (Vivian) , Charles Walters (June), James Walters and Eugene Walters (Ruth), and her beloved husband Army MSgt Lawrence Charles Walker, buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

After high school Mary worked in a WWII defense factory.  She later moved to Cincinnati Ohio where she met her husband, a career Army serviceman.  They were stationed at Ft Campbell KY and Ft Bragg NC and traveled in Europe during two tours in Augsburg, Munich and Bad Tolz Germany.   When he retired, they moved to Massillon Ohio where they built their dream home.  Mary loved home life enjoying her collectibles from their travels, her poodles Pepper and Schnee, gardening and growing flowers.  After her husband’s passing, she moved to Louisville where she lived until her daughter brought her to Alabaster in 2014.

She is survived by daughter, Carol Setser Harmon, granddaughters Lisa (Todd) Ledbetter and Laura (Les) Nabors, and their children; sister-in-law Phyllis Walters (James) and several nieces and nephews.  She will be laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo AL.
