William Robert Scholl

William Robert Scholl, Bessemer Fire Department battalion chief and mentor, (ret). Chief Bill Scholl of Brierfield, Alabama went Home to be with his Lord on Monday August 5, 2024.

He served in the Bessemer Fire Department for 34 years, and was known for his unending mentorship, leadership skills, and tractor driving abilities. He was a graduate of the second graduating class at the University of Alabama School of Paramedics in 1974, afterwards helping to implement the EMS program in western Jefferson County.  Chief Scholl completed his education at Athens State University with a degree in Public Administration.

Born on August 21, 1948, to Mary Ellen Sanders and John Scholl in Birmingham, Alabama, he lived and served his entire life in the Birmingham area. Bill met and married his true love, LaShawn Tesseneer November 4, 1983 in the Pleasant Grove and Gardendale areas of Alabama.  Upon being married they settled in Brierfield, Alabama where they built their forever home.  Children are Kelley Robyn Scholl, John William Scholl, Steven James Hopson (Tamara) and Joy Dayanna Hopson Hulsey.

Mr. Scholl was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, a member of Collectivus Church and active in the Alabama Emmaus Community.

His life was dedicated to serving others and especially mentoring young people both professionally in the fire department and with youth in the community as teacher, mentor, and friend.  He was preceded in death by mother and father, Mary Ellen Scholl and John Scholl, brother Charles Thomas Scholl and grandson Luke Andrew Clayton.  Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 41 years, LaShawn Tesseneer Scholl along with his children,  his brothers John Scholl and Steven Coy Scholl, grandchildren Chancie Rogers (Dallas), Alex Walden (Adam), Isaac King (Jessica), Chyna Scholl, Chasey Scholl, Paul Clayton (Michelle), Silas Clayton, Nesia Hulsey, Anna Hopson, Ben Hopson, Eva Claire Hopson, and Cayden Rachels, great-grandchildren Hudson Rogers, Barrett Rogers, Riley Grace Walden, Colby Walden, and Paisley Clayton.

As a Homegoing Celebration, the family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 am on Monday August 12, 2024  at Alabaster First United Methodist Church, (10903 Highway 119 Alabaster, Alabama) with funeral service to be held at 11:00 am. Pastors Sam Frazier, John London, and Danny Tesseneer officiating.  Interment will be in Montevallo City Cemetery. Charter Chapel Funeral Home directing.
