Our father, Benjamin Shirley Delaney, passed away surrounded by family on October 27, 2023. The oldest of seven siblings, Ben was born on March 3, 1935, to the late Willie Delaney and Evie Foy Delaney in Franklin County, Mississippi.

Ben received his formal education at Draughon’s Business College in Jackson, Mississippi. He was married to Janice Simmons on November 23, 1954, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters. Ben spent most of his career as a Finance Manager in the in the automotive industry. He was a member of The Church at Old Town in Helena. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, going on rides, eating ice cream, and visiting with his four beautiful granddaughters and great granddaughter.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 69 years Jan Delaney; one brother, Tony Delaney; daughters, Janet Abernathy (Darrin) and Julie Slocum (Brandon); granddaughters, Emily Haley (Brooks), Olivia Pence (Will), Amelia Abernathy, Ava Slocum, and one great granddaughter, Hunter Anne Haley.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside celebration of his life at Helena Cemetery, Helena, Alabama at 3:00PM, Sunday, October 29, 2023. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local church. “
