Brenda Sue Hyche Shryock

Brenda Sue Hyche Shryock, 72, of Jemison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Known to most simply as Sue or Mrs. Sue, she touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth, and generosity.

Brenda was born on July 8, 1953, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Leroy Adrian Hyche and Laura Evelyn Smith Hyche. She graduated from Chelsea High School and went on to build a life centered around family, friendship, and service to others.

For 35 years, Sue was a dedicated employee of Walmart, where she built lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless coworkers and customers. She was known for her caring spirit, warm smile, and willingness to help anyone who needed it.

Sue had a deep love for flowers, family gatherings, and staying connected with friends and loved ones. She was often the one planning family events and bringing people together. Taking care of others came naturally to her, and she spent her life making sure the people around her felt loved and supported.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Richard Shryock, and her children: Timothy Shryock, Jason Shryock, John Shryock and his wife Holly, and Joseph Shryock. She was a proud grandmother to Lilly and Jack, who brought her immense joy. Sue is also survived by her siblings, Carolyn Hodges and David Hyche and his wife Amy. She was a beloved aunt to Tabitha Harris, Frankie Hodges Jr., Whitney Arnold, Abigayle Hyche, and Horten Hyche.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers-in-law, John Robert Shryock and Frankie Hodges Sr.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with immediate family gathering beginning at 4:30 p.m., at Charter Funeral Home, 2521 US-31, Calera, Alabama 35040.

Burial services will take place Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive no later than 10:45 a.m., in accordance with the cemetery’s burial policies.

Sue loved flowers, though she often said she never wanted flowers at her funeral. In keeping with her wishes, the family has chosen to hold a Celebration of Life rather than a traditional funeral service. Friends who wish to send flowers are welcome to do so. However, Sue was deeply passionate about helping others, and the family asks that you honor her memory by opening your hearts and supporting others in need.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Koinonia House, a ministry dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives.

Donations can be made at:   https://store.khouse.org/collections/donate-to-koinonia-house

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Shelby Baptist Medical Center for their care and compassion. Sue will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to her family, and the countless ways she cared for those around her. Her love will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew her.
