Charles “Wayne” Whatley

Sunrise November 22, 1967 – Sunset March 3, 2026
Wayne was born to the late Mr. Charles Cofer and Ms. Betty Whatley. Later in life he was adopted by Mr. Jack Whatley. Mr. Cofer and Mr. Whatley both preceded Wayne in death. He is survived by his lovely and faithful wife, Mrs. Sharon Whatley and loving mother, Ms. Betty Whatley. Wayne is a graduate of Montevallo High School. Upon completion of high school, he experienced a career in several different endeavors. After enjoying his childhood Wayne met the love of his life for 35 years, Mrs. Sharon Johns Whatley. To this union there were 4 lovely fur babies. Three which have preceded him in death: Peanut, Minnie, and Buttercup. Peanut and Minnie will be buried with Wayne. However, Taco will still be here to roam the lands and rule the house.
In 2021, Wayne became gainfully employed with the City of Montevallo where he thrived on becoming a very valuable employee for the city. One thing to say about Wayne here in the city, there is not one task he cannot perform. He grew to become like family to most of his co-workers and the lives he touched though-out the community. Later in his career, Wayne transferred to Parks and Rec where he performed all tasks just short a Park Ranger. Wayne’s character and personality are simply irreplaceable. If he said he would do it consider it done.
Services will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 at Charter Funeral Home in Calera, AL. A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. followed by a service at 12 p.m. Wayne will be laid to rest in the Montevallo City Cemetery.

I love you Uncle Wayne you will always be in my heart
Wayne was a son that took care of his mother. He was also a devoted husband to Sharon. They were with each other always except for work and they saw each other there most everyday. Sharon was the one he rushed home from work to see.He took such good care of both women in his life.Wayne was special to many. I will remember you always brother in law.
