Ann Joseph Rait

October 22, 1954 – October 27, 2026

Ann Joseph Rait, 72, of Helena, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on October 27, 2026, just five days after celebrating her 72nd birthday. Born on October 22, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, Ann lived a life filled with laughter, love, friendship, and a spirit that was entirely her own.

Ann was a beautiful soul with a personality that could never be overlooked. She was funny, warm, kind, and fiercely independent. She had a way of making people laugh, a warmth that made others feel welcome, and a stubborn streak that was simply part of what made her uniquely Ann. She lived life on her own terms and left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Ann found happiness in the simple things that made life special. She had a true love for gardening and all things plants. Whether tending to her garden or dreaming up her next home remodeling project, she always found joy in creating, growing, and making things beautiful. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends, who meant the world to her.

Her greatest legacy will always be the love she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter, Crystal Smith, and son-in-law, Michael Smith; her grandsons, Ethan Trimm and Grey Smith; and her bonus grandson, Jeremy Hunter.

She is also survived by her sisters, Tama Eddins and Sela Joseph (Schatz); her brother, Leo Joseph Jr.; her brother-in-law, John Eddins; her sister-in-law, Janet Joseph; and many beloved nieces and nephews: Ashley, Misty, Sara, Jessica, Lisa, Aubrey, Harper, John, Eric, Payton, and John Tyler.

Ann will be remembered for her laughter, her kindness, her independent spirit, her love of family, and the unmistakable personality that made her who she was. Though her time here has ended, the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she gave will continue to grow in the hearts of those who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ann’s life on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pavilion at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, Alabama (3530 Lorna Rd, Hoover, Alabama 35216).

In lieu of simply mourning her absence, may we remember Ann by celebrating life, enjoying the beauty of nature, sharing a good laugh, and appreciating the people we live-just as she would have wanted.
