Steven Lawrence Savage

Steven Lawrence Savage, 62, of Alabaster, Alabama, was born on October 5, 1962, and passed away on September 10, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his family and a host of friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Carol Savage, and his sister, Debbie Savage. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Beverly; their son, Jimmy (Isabelah); brothers Mike Savage (Rhonda) and Jerry Savage (Kathy); and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Born in Indiana, Steve moved to Alabama as a sixth grader, where he met many of the lifelong friends who became like family to him. An avid outdoorsman, he was a passionate turkey hunter and an award-winning call maker, best known as the creator of Savage Calls and the original “Barky.” Whether hunting, camping, or simply spending time in the woods with friends, Steve found joy in God’s creation and in the people around him. He was loved by friends far and wide and never met a stranger.

Above all, Steve loved the Lord. Early in life, he adopted Genesis 27:3 — “Take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me” — as a verse with special meaning, guiding his faith and love for the outdoors throughout his life.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at The Branch at Mission Hills Church on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and the service will follow at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Maylene, Alabama, immediately following the service.

Wow, words fail me. Steve made me laugh many times when we worked together at Ken’s. But we shall laugh again together with the Lord.
