Robert “Bob” D. Hudson, Sr., Major

Bob Hudson was born in Homewood, AL and passed away at the age of 96. He will be sorely missed by friends and family around the world. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Trevor Hudson of Birmingham; parents, William Robert and Beatrice White Hudson; his sister, and brother-in-law, Joan and Joe Douglas and beloved daughter, Sherry Hudson. Immediate survivors include his son, Colonel (United States Air Force, Retired) Robert D. “David” Hudson Jr.; his wife, Angela Hudson, and grandson, Neil Hudson. After graduation from Phillips High School (1943-1947), Bob continued his education at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), 1947-1951. Because of the Korean War, Bob left API early, volunteered for the United States Air Force, completed flying training, and flew F-84 jet fighters in combat over the Korean peninsula. Continuing to serve after the war, his command pilot duties included flying over various fighter aircraft in France and England, propeller-driven special operations aircraft in the Republic of the Congo (to include flying Congo’s President Mobutu), and maintenance officer duties. Returning to Birmingham in 1971, he pursued his interest in horology, becoming well known throughout the Southeast for expert antique clock repairs. Following death, Bob was be cremated and there will be no service. Contributions in memory of “Robert D. Hudson, Sr.” may be made to the Sherry Dianne Hudson Memorial Garden and/or the Hudson Family memorial at All Saints Episcopal Church, 109 west Hawthorne Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
