Nelson Eugene “Gene” Livingston

Nelson Eugene (“Gene”) Livingston, 86, of Chelsea, Alabama, passed away on July 29, 2024. Gene was the loving husband of Dorothy (“Dot”) A. Livingston, who preceded him in death on August 8, 2019. He was also the loving father to their daughter and son, Deborah Livingston Leirer and Scott Eugene Livingston (wife Mica). Gene and Dot have 4 grandchildren: Clayton Tyler Leirer (wife April), Justin Scott Livingston, Meagan Livingston, and Sarah Grace Livingston, as well as 2 great-grandchildren: Tyler Thomas Leirer and Colin Daniel Leirer.  Gene’s parents, Mattie and Ted Livingston, preceded him in death.

Gene was born in Pleasant Grove, Alabama.  Growing up, his father worked in the coal mines.  Gene graduated from Hueytown High School, AL, in 1956.  He joined the Marines in 1956 and honorably served until 1962.  In 1959, he met the love of his life while on leave, and they were married within a few months.  They happily raised a family and showed that true love exists for more than 60 years.

Gene worked in the steel mill industry in Birmingham after retiring from the Marines and then moved to Atlanta, where he worked in the steel mill industry for many years before returning to Birmingham, AL.

Gene lived a full, happy, and exciting life, filled with love for God, family, and friends.  Anyone who met him, became his friend for life.  Gene will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the spirit he inspired in so many.

The service will be officiated by Charter Funeral Home Chapel, located at 2521 Highway 31, Calera, Alabama.  The celebration of life ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 14^th, 2024.   A short visitation will start at 1 :00 pm.  The celebration of life ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m.  The military service will be held at 2:45 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery.
