LCpl Gary “Curtis” Jones II

We are deeply saddened to announce that Gary “Curtis” Jones II passed away on May 24, 2024, in Birmingham, AL at the age of 37. We will have a gathering of family and friends Saturday June 1st from 5-7 PM at Charter Funeral Home, 2521 US Hwy 31, Calera, AL.  

Curtis is preceded in death by his father, Gary Curtis Jones Sr., and his grandfather, Curtis Allen Jones. He is survived by his children, Ryyon Roman Jones and Isla Blake McMon; grandmother, Paulette Jones; stepmother, Kelli Jones; siblings, Caitlin Johnson (Lane), Garrett Cole Jones, Katie Scoggins (Devin), and Matt DeBerry; and his emotional support dog, Samantha.

Curtis enlisted in the US Marine Corps on December 15, 2008, serving five years, including two tours of duty.  He was an Airframer VMM 162 until his service ended December 2013.   He loved and excelled in sports from an early age playing baseball, football, basketball, golf, tennis, and bowling. Curtis enjoyed spending time with his children, singing, playing his guitar, and video gaming.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Curtis’ honor.

A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me.”
Remember the best times, the laughter the song. 
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. 
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. 
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again.

    Curtis was always a special guy. I remember riding the school bus with him in elementary school and passing notes in class. Later in life, Curtis would let me know when Marine Corp events were happening for the Marine Corp birthday so I could share with my dad. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Praying for his family and friends. ♥️
