Gary “Danny” Daniel Church

Gary “Danny” Daniel Church, beloved husband, Daddy, Da, brother, son, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 67. His heart belonged to his girls – his wife, daughters, and granddaughters – who were the center of his life and his greatest joy.
Danny shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Gerri Lynn Church. The two have loved one another since they were 15 years of age. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughters, Melissa Church Smith and Rachel Church Bradley, and a caring father-in-law to Patrick Louis Smith and John Michael Bradley.
Being “Da” to his grandbabies – Lauren, Keirsten, Charli, Dani, and Lani – was one of the greatest blessings of his life. He also adored his two loyal dogs, Jaxon and Skye. Danny was the loyal son of Ethel Sue McDaniel and John Milton Church Jr.
He spent many years working as a mechanic before dedicating himself to serving others as a firefighter and Fire Marshal for the City of Calera. Outside of work, Danny found joy in the simple things he loved most – hunting, fishing, golfing, and cheering on Alabama Football.
Danny’s life was a beautiful example of selflessness, strength, and unconditional love. He left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Funeral Services will be held Monday May 18, 2026 at Charter Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a service to follow at 4 p.m. Danny will be laid to rest in Moores Cemetery.
Melissa, Gerri & Rachel;
My heart breaks for your family. Having been best friends with Melissa for 21 years now, I had the blessing of knowing Danny. He was the sweetest soul you could ever meet. He was truly a light to everyone that knew him. I love you guys so much and wish that I could take away this pain, as I know first hand it is a heartbreak like no other. Danny was incredibly special and will be missed by so many. Words cannot express how much I love you all, and I am always here. So much Love and Prayers you.
Danny was so loved by so many and no doubt made a huge impact in this world. I met him through working with Gerri and Rachel and came to adore the whole family. Danny and Gerri shared a special, deep love and I’ll always remember Gerri calling him her “sweet man”. Indeed he was. Praying for you all~ Angel Copes
