Dr. William Gerald “Jerry” Moore

Dr. William Gerald “Jerry” Moore, age 79, of Marion, Alabama passed away on February 17, 2026, in Gainesville, GA.
Born on July 24,1946 in Marion Jerry was the son of Aubrey & Eloise Moore. Throughout his life, he was known for his quick wit, his determined spirit, his ability to innovate and his raw intelligence. He was a loving husband to his wife of 54 years, a devoted father and family man, a community servant, and a great friend to many.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (Class of 1971), and he used the skills learned there to practice veterinary medicine for 17 years, mostly in south central Nebraska. He practiced vet medicine on all types of animals, but horses were his favorite. He particularly took pride in helping farmers, ranchers, and cattle feeders to become more productive with their herds by embracing modern animal husbandry techniques and sound breeding and nutritional practices. He was known by most in a several county area as “Doc” and sometimes even called “the cow doc.” While in Nebraska he served his community on the local school board, the rodeo committee and was active with several civic groups.
After leaving private practice in 1988, he took a position with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection service, where he upheld the mission of keeping our food supply safe. He served in various locations from Nebraska to South Georgia. Upon retirement from USDA in 2013 he stayed busy hunting, fishing, raising horses and traveling.
Jerry is survived by his sons Billy Moore (Molly) of Flowery Branch, GA & Mark Moore of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Caleb Moore (Caelyn), Sarah Beth Dannenmiller (Keller), Zach Farr (Juliea), Wyatt Moore, and DJ Moore; great grandchildren, Maverick and Warner; siblings Dennis Moore of Tasmania, Australia and Mike Moore (BJ) of Lake Park, Georgia and was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, June Moore, and his parents, Aubrey & Eloise Moore and his sisters Jeanette Oakes (Kevin and Charlene) and Anita Daniel.

A sad day. Jerry Moore one of my best high school friends. We shared some awesome adventures during our high school years. Even though we did not get to see each other very often when we did all those years faded away and we always shared memories of our youth. Jerry was a special person who will always be remembered and missed by all who knew him. May you be in heaven two days before the devil even knows that you are gone. RIP.
