Darrell Willard Marcum
Darrell Willard Marcum, 78, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2016. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, husband, and friend to many people. Known as “Papa” and “Papaw” to his grandchildren and adopted grandchildren, he was born in McVeigh, KY and raised in Logan, WV– the son of an Appalachian coal miner. Darrell served in the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa, Japan from 1958-60, and used his VA benefits to become the first college graduate in his family from GA State in 1968. He married and is survived by wife Arlene Marie Blayney on Nov. 8, 1958. Darrell worked as an engineer for AT&T until he retired in 1990. Darrell held his family as priority importance, being immensely proud of and survived by his sons Ross, Eric and Bart, and daughter Adele; and grandchildren Zachary, Spencer, Avery, Lilli, Joseph and Valentina Marcum, and Matt, Caitlin and Elizabeth Allison, as well as many special friends. Darrell loved dogs, especially german shepherds and leaves his trusted pet Bella to watch over his wife. He was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, AL, and a loyal watcher of EWTN. His memory was celebrated on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 1728 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL with a wake from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and funeral mass from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
