Basil Smith, Sr.

Basil Smith, Sr., age 83, went to his Heavenly home on Thursday , May 14, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 19, 1942, to his parents, Jewell and Ruth Bearden Smith.

Basil was a Jack of all trades . He worked for ST. Regis Paper Company for over 40 years as their head Machinist. When he retired, he went back to working parttime at Rocky Ridge Drug Co., Delivering prescription drugs to people for many years. Basil enjoyed getting out and meeting all the customers and creating friendships all over. He had so much knowledge about many different trades; anytime anyone needed anything, he was there to fix whatever issue you had.

 Basil is survived by his loving wife, Kay Smith; children, Kelley Wright, Eddie Smith (Amy), and Kim Woodson (John); grandchildren, Anna Wright, Josh Wright, Justin Smith, and Hayleigh Smith. He is preceded by his parents, Jewell and Ruth Smith, and his siblings, Frances Brasher, Polly Anthony, Charlotte Acton, and Johnny Smith.

Services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 10 a.m.  Basil will be laid to rest in Croft-Acton Cemetery. Donnie Acton will be officiating. Services entrusted to Charter Funeral Home & Crematory.
