William Joseph “Joe” Smitherman

William Joseph “Joe” Smitherman of Montevallo passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. Joe was born on December 20, 1951, to Bill Smitherman and Catherine Smitherman Legg, and was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his brothers, Tom (Glenda), Scott (Dedra), and Clay (Stephanie) Smitherman, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joe was an avid fisherman who never missed a chance to go to the lake. He devoted most of his time in his later years to serving as the primary caregiver for his mother, prior to her passing a year ago.

It was his wish that no funeral service be held, and that his burial would be private.
