Ronald “Ronnie” Earle Mize

Ronald “Ronnie” Earle Mize, resident of Alabaster, AL, passed away at the age of 73 on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to Horace Welton and Mary Lee LeCroy Mize on May 19, 1950, in Birmingham, AL.

Ronnie was a veteran of the United States Army.  After his service he began working for the US Postal Service and retired from there after 38 years.  He was a member of First Baptist Church Alabaster. He enjoyed Alabama football, coaching youth sports, playing softball, listening to his 8 track tapes, drawing, and spending time with his family. His greatest accomplishment in life was becoming a “Big Daddy” and spending as much time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as he could. He was a friend to all and loved by everyone that met him.

Ronnie is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Jennifer West Mize; son, Jeff (Tracy) Mize; daughter, Rachael (Eric) Mandell; son, Jeremy (Ashley) Mize; daughter Rebecca (Daniel) Turner-Garcia; grandchildren Coby (Yuri) Mize, Peyton (Cody Cook) Mize, Mackenzie Mandell, Zac Mandell, Natalie Mandell, Noah Mize, Josiah Turner, Daniel Garcia, Jr., Faith Turner, Bentley Mize; great-grandson, Kash Mize; soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter, Rosie Mize; bonus grandchildren, Amber and Brandan Lloyd; bonus great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hallie Lloyd; sisters, Betty Bearden and Flo Steele; brother-in-law, Frank West; his beloved “stupid dog” Henry; and a host of family and friends that were like family. He is predeceased by his parents.

Services will be held at Charter Funeral Home on Sunday, September 24 with visitation from 4:00-6:00 pm, and a celebration of life service at 6:00. Burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Monday, September 25 at 10:15a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Thompson High School wrestling and ROTC programs. Donations may be sent to Thompson High School, Attn: Bookkeeping, 1921 Warrior Parkway, Alabaster, AL 35007.
