Rev. Leon Gene Cook

Rev. Leon Gene Cook, age 79, of Alabaster Alabama went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2019. Rev. Cook was preceded in death by his parents – Rev. Leon Cook and Marie Olive Cook, and his brother – Dr. Ray Cook. He is survived by his wife Linda Taylor Cook, his son Chris (Gloria), and daughter Kay Barfield, grandsons Eli and Nathan Cook, his sister-in-law, Elaine Cook, nephew Chad (Jill) Cook, his niece Candi (Mark) Brown, great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Rev. Cook was born in Ashland, Kentucky. He graduated from Holmes High School in Covington Kentucky and Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Counseling at Troy University, Troy Alabama, his Doctor’s Degree in a Christian counseling at Covington Theological Seminary in Georgia.

Rev. Cook pastored churches in Tennessee, Kansas, Kentucky, and Georgia. He was a hospice Chaplin for 18 years before his retirement. He directed music in churches as well. In recent years he taught a Bible class at the local Senior Center.

In past years he was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching sports especially the Kentucky Wildcats. He was fascinated by eagles and lighthouses, doing research on both. His favorite Scripture was Isaiah 40:31.

A Memorial service will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 1998 Shades Crest rd., Birmingham, Al. 35216, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 A.M.

    He was truly a good friend and a great man of God. I will miss him and will forever be indebted to him for his guidance in my Christian walk.

    L Gene Cook was my pastor in Liberal Kansas with his wife Linda. They were awesome pastors and helped me in my new walk with Christ . I put a plaque on his pulpit , Sirs we would see Jesus. One of his favorite verses . God bless Linda and Hus family
