Mary Ruth Finley Jensen

Mary Ruth Finley Jensen of Hoover passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, and her husband, Harry E. “Bud” Jensen III. She is survived by her brother, Charles Finley (Mary) of Charleston, SC; two sons, Chuck Houston of Columbia, SC and Terry Houston of Laguna Beach, CA; one daughter, Jodee Houston of Foley, AL; three grandsons, Patrick Houston of Los Angeles, CA, Robbie Houston of Bessemer, AL, and Dusin Dowie of Foley, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews,

Mary was born July 12, 1933, in Anniston, AL to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie L. Finley. She was a 1951 graduate of Anniston High School. Mary worked for the US Government Civil Service for 30 years before retiring in 1991. During her lifetime, Mary resided in Anniston, AL, Bamberg, Germany, Virginia Beach, VA, and Tustin, CA before settling in Hoover, AL after her husband’s retirement from Continental Airlines in 2002.

Mary was very active in social and civic organizations during the past 22 years, including many dedicated to serving veterans in need of assistance. She really enjoyed these activities, decorating for holidays, and hosting parties at her residence, particularly her annual Christman party. She was also very active in her Church.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church. 5521 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL at 2 p.m. The family will be available beginning at 1 p.m. to receive and visit with guests prior to the service.
