Luther Eugene Scott

July 26, 1933 – July 5, 2026

Gene Scott, age 92, of Calera, Alabama, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 5, 2026, surrounded by his family. Those who knew Gene will remember him as a man of unwavering character, quiet wisdom, and steadfast faith. He believed that the greatest accomplishments in life were not measured by possessions or titles but by serving God, loving family, and treating others with kindness and respect. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and willingness to help anyone in need will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Gene was born to Eli Luther and Lily Pauline Scott on July 26,1933, and raised in Homewood, Alabama. He served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years and then served in the United States Navy Reserve. Following his military service, Gene enjoyed a distinguished career in the communications industry with Western Electric, where he earned the respect of coworkers and lifelong friends through his strong work ethic, honesty, and leadership.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play football, baseball, cheerleading, and soccer, encouraging others, and living out his Christian faith. A longtime member of Walkers Chapel Baptist Church in Fultondale, Alabama and later First Baptist Church of Alabaster, Alabama, Gene faithfully served his church in the roles of Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and a weekly sermon audio tape ministry for homebound church members.  Among life’s simple pleasures, he especially enjoyed fishing and looked forward to every chance he had to be on the water.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Laura “Faye” (Duke) Scott; his sons Danny (Jennifer) Scott of Pelham, Alabama and Darin (Tammy) Scott of Thorsby, Alabama; son-in-law Lee Rogers of Alabaster, Alabama; granddaughters Elizabeth (Travis) Scott Hinton of Boxborough, Massachusetts, Emilee (Trey) Rogers Manning of Oxford, Mississippi, and Ally Rogers of Alabaster, Alabama; grandsons Cody (Lindsey) Scott of Thorsby, Alabama and Nathan (Alexandra) Scott of Birmingham, Alabama; great granddaughters Wrenley Scott and Navy Scott of Thorsby, Alabama and Piper Scott of Birmingham, Alabama; great grandsons Drew Blankenship and Bain Blankenship of Thorsby, Alabama, Nash Scott of Thorsby, Alabama, and Parker Manning of Oxford, Mississippi; sister Kit Hambley of Graysville, Alabama; nephew Herb Scott of Maylene, Alabama; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Donna Scott Rogers, his grandson Brandon Blankenship, his parents, and other cherished family members who welcomed him into Heaven.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, July 16th , 10:00 am to 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Alabaster, with funeral services following at 11:00 am to noon. Interment will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama at 1:15 pm with military honors recognizing Gene’s faithful service to his country.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, church family, and medical professionals whose compassion and prayers brought comfort throughout Gene’s journey. They are also so very thankful to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice for their stellar care of Gene.
