Kenneth W. Bunn

Kenneth W. Bunn, RN, ATP of Columbiana, AL passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Raised in Pelham, AL, Kenneth Bunn was a 1968 graduate of Thompson High School. He immediately joined the United States Army to go to helicopter flight school, where he graduated as a pilot and Warrant Officer in 1969. After a training assignment with the 3rd Special Forces, Ft, Bragg NC, Mr. Bunn was assigned the 92nd Assault helicopter Company in Vietnam. He entered the Alabama National Guard flying for the 20th Special Forces group. After his active Army service was over, Mr. Bunn went to work for Air Logistics of New Iberia, LA, flying to offshore oil fields, where he remained for 21 years until medically grounded. Mr. Bunn then obtained a degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse for 17 years until retirement. “Kenny” was a Life Member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and served as it’s President from 1994-95.

Mr. Bunn is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Sr. and Virgie Bunn, and by an older brother, Douglas Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine; sons, Keegan and Kevin; daughter, Sarah; brothers, Steve and Jeff; sister, Kimberly Weathers; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of classmates and flying buddies.

Services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025, at Siluria Baptist Church in Alabaster, AL. A visitation will be held at 1 pm followed by a service at 2pm. He will be laid to rest with honors in Pine Lawn Gardens, in Columbiana, AL.

    The Shootout was not the same. Kenny was the reason for the season,but his spirit will always live on. So sorry for your loss.
