Joel Griggs Hunter II

Joel Griggs Hunter II, aged 62, passed away peacefully on June 24th. He was a proud resident of Montevallo, where he lived with his life partner, Teresa Simons. He was a beloved son, father and grandfather. Joel was an owner of Alabama Shop Equipment and was a respected business owner in our community. He loved the lord and attended church at the First United Methodist Church of Montevallo. Joel was very outgoing and loved motorcycles, golfing, and hunting. His family and business were his biggest passions. Joel always had the ability to make anyone smile. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

He is preceded by his father, O.L. “Jack” Griffin. Joel is survived by his  mother, Joy Reavis Griffin; life partner, Teresa Simons; son, Joel G. Hunter III (Petra); granddaughter, Ariel Rose Hunter; grandson, Jason Felix Hunter; sister, Diana Decker (Gary); brothers, Allen Drew Hunter (Brenda), Robert W. Griffin (Patience), and John M. Griffin (Jewel); aunt, Margaret Sue Mitchell; uncles, William R. Reavis (Charlotte) and David R. Reavis (Susan); and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Montevallo. The family will be receiving guests from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with a service to begin at 2 p.m. Joel will be laid to rest in Helena City Cemetery. Reverend Lawton Higgs Jr. will be officiating. In Lieu of Flowers, please send donations to the First United Methodist Church of Montevallo’s Heritage Fund. Charter Funeral Home in Calera will be assisting the family with his services.
