Andrea Lee Dunnam Burgess Jones

It is with heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Andrea Lee Dunnam Burgess Jones, who peacefully left this world on April 29, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 88. Her journey began on March 6, 1938, in Birmingham, Alabama, born to the late Andrew Berry Dunnam and Minnie Estelle Scott Dunnam.
Andrea’s early life in Birmingham was filled with love and warmth, shared with her siblings, the late Martha Sue Dunnam King, William Dunnam, and Doris Dunnam Burroughs. She carried the values instilled by her family throughout her life, always reflecting the qualities of joy, kindness, and a giving spirit that defined her.
In 1956, soon after graduating from Jones Valley High School, Andrea married her high school sweetheart, Charles Elbert Burgess. Their union was blessed with a son, Stephen. Together, Andrea and Charles built a life filled with love and joy of 31 years until his passing in 1987. Later, she found love again with William Edward Jones, warmly embracing his sons, Joey and Ronnie, into her heart and family. They enjoyed an active life together for 28 years until Ed passed in 2016.
Andrea was a dedicated professional, initially serving as a loan officer at Birmingham Trust National Bank before dedicating her time to raising her son. In 1972, she resumed her career at The City of Alabaster, where she was a valued magistrate, personnel administrator, and secretary to the Mayor until her retirement in 2000. Her colleagues remember her for her dedication, warmth, and joyful personality.
Beyond her professional life, Andrea was a devoted member of the Pelham Church of God, where she participated actively. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through times of joy and sorrow alike. She was particularly known for her active greeting card ministry and daily blessings via text message, spreading kindness and compassion wherever she went.
Andrea’s culinary talents were cherished by all who knew her. Her deviled eggs, cole-slaw, and fruit cake were not just dishes, but expressions of love shared with family and friends during countless gatherings.
Her legacy lives on through her son, Dr. Stephen W. Burgess (Pamela), and her stepsons, Joey T. Jones (Melinda) and Ronnie W. Jones (Laura). She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren; Jessica Burgess, Madeline Jones Bonds, Savannah Jones Baldwin, Jacob Jones, Alli Miller, Blake Grdjan, Payton Jones, and McKenzie Jones; and three great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and wisdom she imparted.
A service celebrating Andrea’s life will be held on May 8, 2026, at Pelham Church of God, 2100 County Rd 52 E, Pelham, AL 35124. Open visitation will be from 12:00-1:30pm, with the service following from 1:30-2:30pm.
