Alva D. Covington

Alva D. Covington age 88, passed away on August 15, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil Taylor and Callie Taylor; husband, Ben Covington; sons, Dewey Covington, Benjie Covington; brothers, Walter Taylor, JB Popwell; sister, Evelyn Smith.

She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Gentry (Bobby); son Bennie Covington; sisters, Mary Thompson, Helen Huven, Carol Wynn, Gracie Pope, Dorothy Hubbard (Butch); brothers, Horace Taylor (Dorothy), Lee Taylor, Bobby Taylor. Alva is also survived by 9 grandchildren as well as numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Alva’s services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the chapel of Charter Funeral Home in Calera, with her visitation to begin at 10:30 a.m. until her service at 11:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Alabama National Cemetery with a committal service time at 1:15 p.m.

    My dear precious sister, Alva fought a good fight and won as she has gone to her Heavenly home to live in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Thank God for the 88 years you had here with Family and Friends. As the oldest, you were a beacon for all 9 siblings. I love you and am missing you already.
