Margaret Marie “Meg” Mackle

September 26, 1948 – January 25, 2026
Meg was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 26, 1948, to David and Evelyn Mackle. A lifelong resident of Birmingham, Meg attended Woodlawn High School and graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She worked at the UAB Medical Library.
Meg loved animals deeply, especially dogs and horses. Her faithful companion, Simba, was always by her side and misses her terribly. She also loved sports and had played tennis and softball. But her greatest joy came from Alabama football Saturdays—attending every home game for many years with her dad.
Music was another great love in Meg’s life. Meg used to play and sing hymns from an old Methodist hymnal, or perhaps the Beatles “Let It Be”. When it came to her musical tastes she was a big fan of musicals and Barry Manilow but everyone knew that John Denver was always number one.
Meg had a rare gift: she was genuinely kind. We are each better for having been loved by her.
Meg is survived by her sister, Sally Levine, her brother, David Mackle, Jr., (Sue); her nieces, Lynn Larson (Brad), Kim Price (Wayne), and Dana Stromberg; and her nephews, Robert C. Jolley and David Mackle III (Holly). She also leaves behind thirteen great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews.
Meg was preceded in death by her parents, David and Evelyn Mackle, and brother-in-law Arthur Levine.
