Jeanette Williams “Ma”
Jeanette Wiliams “Ma” age 84, passed from this walk of life on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born to William David and Fannie Lee Hilton Smith on August 4, 1939, in South Carolina.
Jeanette went to River View School in Fort Mill first, after that she went to Central School in Rock Hill where they lived on Saluta Street at the time. Then going on to Ebenport Elementary School and finally to Rock Hill High School. She finished high school at the young age of 16 and went on to Winthrop College for a short period; with her finishing school at her age, she needed to wait a year and mature. Not long after she got her first paying job working for Social Security in Rock Hill, then that is when she married Tom, they moved to Charleston, SC.
She helped Tom through Pharmaceutical School then on to Medical School and he took on a great job in Troutman, NC, at the Home for Children and Orphan. Tom worked with RJ Reynolds Tobacco in Winston Salem, NC., enlisted in the US Army, and went to Vietnam with the 101st airborne mash unit. During his war time Jeanette, Steve, Mike, and Alacia lived with the Williams grandparents. Later, after Tom came back from the war Chris was born and they moved to Charlotte, NC, for more medical training, then on to Ogden Utah finishing his surgical training. They later moved back to the East coast to Sweet Home Alabama. Jeanette was Tom’s Medical Secretary in his private practice for many years.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. J Thomas “Tom” Williams, Jr.; parents, William David, and Fannie Lee Hilton Smith; son, Michael Williams. Jeanette is survived by her sons, Steve and Chris Williams; daughter, Alacia Williams; 5- grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Williams, Michael Paul Williams, Samantha Williams Mickle, J T Williams, and Alex Carroll; 1- great-grandchild, Dresdon Rome Mickle; brothers, David and Jerry Smith; sister, Frances Hall; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in the chapel of Charter Funeral Home starting at 3:00 PM, with a visitation one hour prior to her service. Jeanette “Ma” will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery alongside her husband. Graveside services will be private for the immediate family. Charter Funeral Home in Calera, Alabama are handling arrangements for the Williams family.
