Herschel Edwin Guthrie “The Knife Man” “Cyclone”, age 84, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was born on September 20,1940, to his parents, Herbert and Bertie Guthrie, both of whom have preceded him in death. He is also preceded by his sister Annette Johnson. Herschel is survived by his loving wife, Sherria Guthrie; son, Stephen Guthrie (Regina); grandson, Ethan Guthrie; brother, Tim Guthrie; and loyal pet, Woody.

Herschel graduated from Vincent High School in 1958. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served from 1960-1964. After he retired as a Union Iron Worker in 2003, he enjoyed his time boating, fishing, and knife making.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at New Life Church in Westover, AL, with a luncheon to follow. Herschel will be laid to rest in the Union Methodist Church Cemetery.
