Brenda Johnson

Beloved Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend
Brenda Johnson, a cherished wife, Mother, Nana, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at the age of 75 after a long and courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Hamilton, Alabama, Brenda later moved to Mobile, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Marvin Johnson. Their love story spanned over six decades, and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on February 24, just one day before her passing.
She was blessed to have a sister, Melanie Lauder (husband Jim Lauder and children Asher, Banks, and Caroline) and together they cared for their mother Ruby Fay Loper until her passing. It is certain that Brenda and her mother had a beautiful reunion.
Brenda, affectionately known as “Nana” and “Mrs. Brenda,” dedicated 30 years of her life to shaping young dancers at Corky Bell Dance Studio in Alabaster. She had a unique ability to make every child feel special, offering countless hugs and always keeping a small trinket behind her desk to brighten a young dancer’s day. Her years at the studio were among her happiest, and the love she shared with her students left an enduring impact on generations.
Brenda’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Johnson, and their three children: Trea’ Johnson, Chris Johnson (wife Lisa Johnson), and Robin Johnson Hussey (husband Greg Hussey). She was a devoted mother, always her children’s biggest advocate and supporter.
Brenda was a proud and loving “Nana” to her ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter: David Johnson, Natalie Mandell, Collin Johnson, Summer Hussey Bishop, Tyler Hussey, Reagan Farmer (Loyd Farmer), Derek Hussey, Brock Stapleton, Josh Hussey, and Ruby Ann Stapleton and Lili Bishop. Many of her grandchildren were blessed to spend their younger years in the magical “Nana Daycare,” where they enjoyed endless love, fun, and the freedom to do anything their hearts desired.
In addition to her deep love for family, Brenda was a dedicated member of the Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge for 24 years. She actively volunteered with the organization and took great pride in its civic work and patriotic mission. The friendships she and Marvin built through the Elks Lodge became a source of strength and support that remained with her until the very end.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Brenda will be held on March 2, 2025, at the Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.
Brenda’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
