James “Jim” Counts

The Celebration of Life Service for James “Jim” Counts, age 62, will be held at the Charter Funeral Home in Calera. Visitation will be from 6pm to 7pm on Monday, June 10, 2019 and the Memorial Service will immediately follow from 7pm to 8pm. Jim was the Human Resources Director at Physical Security by profession but personally was greatly involved in the alcohol and drug rehabilitation community and helped many souls on his path in life. He had a talent of drawing people in with his vibrant, lively, and lovingly-sarcastic personality and gave people a rock to hold on to during their tough times in life. His most treasured memories are those of times spent with his family and friends. He has a wonderful wife and six children, and he loves his crazy crew dearly. Jim is preceded by grandparents Maurice and Mary Sue Holmes, mother Sue Satterfield, and brother John Counts. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Counts as well as his kids Jason Counts (Morgan Counts), Christopher Counts, Maxwell Lerner (Ashley Lerner), Megan Toler (Ryan Toler), Alexandra Lerner, and Ginger Hubbard (Sean Hubbard). In lieu of flowers, donations made to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice.

I want to first offer condolences to all of the Counts, Lerner and extended family and friends. Jim was one of a kind and impacted the lives of many thousands of people. He was the person who accepted me into treatment, leading to a new life. He was the brother I never had and I will miss him so much. This world has lost a dear soul and has been forever changed because of him. You left your fingerprints everywhere Jim Counts – through your dear wife, your beautiful children and grandchildren – all of us blessed to have had our lives forever changed by you – and all those who didn’t know you, but who’s lives have been touched by you through those you helped save. I love you brother.
