Donald Edward Glass, age 80, passed peacefully at his home in Alabaster, AL on January 14, 2024. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jackie Glass; daughter, Holly Glass Hohnstein (Dave); grandson, Nicholas Hohnstein; brothers, Bill Glass (Jane) and Chuck Glass (Barbara) along with much loved extended family and friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents W.T. “Noodie” Glass and Muriel Green Glass and his sister, Brenda Ray (Jerry) of Gallion, AL.
Don, a native of Marengo County, graduated from Linden High School in 1961, where he played football for the Linden Red Devils. He returned home after serving 4 years in the US Air Force. Don began his 30 plus year career at Gulf State Paper in Demopolis where he made friendships he cherished until his passing. Don and Jackie were members of Fairhaven Baptist Church, where Don looked forward to Sunday morning worship and fellowship with his men’s group.
In retirement, Don continued to enjoy morning fellowship with friends at Jack’s and camping with the many friends who came to be like family. Anyone who knew Don also knows he never gave up “tinkering” with cars.
After over 40 years in Demopolis, Don and Jackie moved to Alabaster. They joined First Baptist Church in Pelham and have been blessed by the many friends they have made in their Sunday School Class.
Don’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to all who have been a part of his life, his care and who have lifted him and the family in prayer. Please join them for a Celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at First Baptist Church Pelham. A visitation will be held from 11 am – 12 pm, followed by a service at 12 pm. Don will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery with military honors at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the Glass family is requesting donations be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home & Ministries at Alabamachild.org/give.
