3/4/1955 – 2/3/2019

David entered into the Heavenly Father’s rest on Sunday, February 3, 2019  just weeks before his 64th birthday.

After growing up in Calera and graduating from the University of Montevallo, he made an intentional effort to invest in and to serve his home town.

Very rarely does an individual make as important an impact on an area as he did. Following in the footsteps of his father, Mr. Roy Downs, he provided years of invaluable community service. Whether it was coaching little league, investing in the future of local youth, volunteering on the Calera Rec board or even providing authentic banking services as Vice President of Central State Bank, David Downs could be counted on to go above and beyond.

Please keep the families in your prayers as they grieve for the loss and find joy in the strength of our Lord. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 6 to 8pm at Calera Baptist Church, A Celebration of Life will be at noon on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. At Calera Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Calera Community Scholarship Fund c/o Central State Bank, P.O. Box 180, Calera, Al 35040.

    I know you are at rest David. I think you were among the first friends Bill and I made when we first moved to Calera. That has been 43 years ago this coming April. I know you and Bill are up there together,God Bless You
    David. May god be with all of the Downs family and help you through giving David up. I am thinking about all of you i know what it was like when i gave Bill up. Bonnie just lean on Jesus i know how hard it will be for you to get through this. Blessing to all of you.

    I just saw David’s obituary & can share wholly in your loss having lost my Jimmy in January. My prayers for you, that God will comfort you. I am so sorry for your loss as I know David brought you much happiness during your years together. I grieve with you my friend. Sincerely,
